How do I lubricate my [screw drive] garage door opener?

The screwrod of your Genie ScrewDrive unit should be lubricated about once a year.
- We recommend using GLU (Genie’s white lithium grease,) however you can use another brand of lubricant as long as it is a white lithium based grease.
- It is very important to select the correct type of lubricant. (For example: WD-40 will prevent the system from working properly.)
- If needed, you can use mineral spirits to remove any old grease before lubricating.
To Lubricate:
- Starting at the door end of the rail, squeeze a pea-sized amount on the threaded screw rod itself.
- Moving towards the unit, place another dollop of grease about every 2.5ft or so.
- Once the grease is applied, operate the unit a few times to rotate the screw rod, and help the carriage distribute the lubrication.
